In the US the CPI stands for
consumer price index. On the international stage, it stands for Corruption Perceptions Index. That index, first published in 1995 by
Transparency International (TI), the global coalition against corruption, recently issued its
2008 CPI index. Denmark, New Zealand and Sweden are perceived as the least corrupt. Somalia is perceived as the most corrupt. Of the 180 countries surveyed, Tanzania is ranked 102 along with Bolivia, Djibouti, Dominican Republic, Lebanon, Mongolia and Rwanda. The
NigeriaDailyNews.com reports that Rwanda and Tanzania are perceived as least corrupt among East African Community countries. TI also issues an
annual corruption report. This year's report looks at corruption in the water sector. Individual country reports are also included.
